Pro Se Mediation and The DIY Culture

I talk a lot about mediation and as a mediator I should. I think mediation is great. I wish more people would jump into mediation first instead of litigation. One of the great things about mediation in this DIY culture we have now is that it can be done without attorneys, you just need a mediator like myself.

No lawyers?!? I know that is ideal, especially for those looking to solve their problems, save money, and keep things cordial. If you already have a case going, say a divorce, you can do a mediation at any time you and your future ex decide. You don’t have to wait for a court to tell you to do it. You don’t have to hire a lawyer to do it. This is called a Pro Se mediation. Meaning that the parties, you and your soon to be ex, are not represented by attorneys. Most case now are people who are doing things on their own. Pro Se mediation fits nicely into that model.

Now you can still do a pro se mediation before you even have a case started. What! Yes. You do not need to have a case already in motion. If you are contemplating a lawsuit for whatever reason, business dispute, custody, divorce, you and the other party can agree to try to mediate the dispute before you file a suit. Solve the problem yourselves before it gets too big.

Pro Se mediation is great because no one has to hire a lawyer to represent you in the mediation. You just need to hire a mediator that does pro se mediation, like myself. You will still get to handle your issues on your own. You are control of the outcome and it will save you a lot of time, energy, and money.

So when you are trying to handle your own legal issues pro se mediation is worth a try.
