Why Trademark?
There are several reasons to register a trademark. Here are a few:
- It shows the country you have the exclusive right to use that mark.
- It helps to establish your brand.
- It can be a valuable asset.
- It is relatively cheap to do.
What is a Trademark?
According to the USPTO, a trademark is a word, phrase, symbol, and/or design that identifies and distinguishes the source of the goods of one party from those of others. Basically, it is a way to legally protect your ideas, designs, and brand; and make it distinguishable between others.
Why You Need a Lawyer
As the USPTO site states "a trademark attorney can conduct a more comprehensive search for potential problems with your use of a proposed mark than you will be able to conduct in TESS. The attorney then can counsel you regarding use of the mark, recommend whether to file a trademark application, and advise you on your likelihood of success in the registration process."
